As a trombonist…

…Jackson Churchill is an award-winning soloist, claiming the top prize in the J.J. Johnson International Jazz Trombone Competition (International Trombone Association), National Solo Jazz Competition (American Trombone Workshop) and the Jazz Trombone Day competition (Yamaha/BAC/University of North Texas). He also has played in the GRAMMY-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas.

…Jackson is in-demand as a director of jazz and wind ensembles. He currently serves as a Band Director and the Director of Jazz at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. Additionally, Jackson is a Teaching Artist of Jazz Trombone at Drake University, and he is on faculty at the Luther College Dorian Summer Music Camp.

…Jackson’s skills earned him an award for 2021 Outstanding Small Ensemble Arrangement (Downbeat Magazine). Jackson also presented his research, “The Role of Leadership in Ensemble Motivation and Engagement,” at the Iowa Music Educators Association 2019 convention. Additionally, Jackson is an accomplished pianist, accompanying numerous student juries and recitals.
